I’m a bit behind in my blogging.  Yesterday was a long drive.  We left from Cincinnati at around 10am and drove to Omaha, Nebraska.  We were on the road for 13 1/2 hours.  It was our “I State Day.”  We drove through Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.  We did not stop until we got to Nebraska.  I was too tired to blog by the time we got to our hotel.

When we started talking about dinner Eric got on his blackberry and found out that there is a vegan restaurant in Iowa City that was rated one of the top 10 vegetarian restaurants in the country.  Eric called to see if we could get reservations, just in case it was a fancy place.  They seemed surprised.

When we got there we realized that this was not the kind of place that takes reservations.  It turns out that Iowa City is a college town, and The Red Avocado is one of those laid-back college town cafes.  We sat on the patio and had a lovely dinner.  We both ordered the special.  I don’t remember what it was called, but it involved linguini, shitake mushrooms, cucumber, nori, almonds, steamed kale… it was yummy!  Subtle, yet complex flavors.
