Sunday Brunch at the Comet

Are you tired of reading about the Comet?  Well, I’m writing about them again because they have something new going on.  They have Sunday Brunch.  I don’t know if this is going to become a regular thing, or if it’s just a special occasion gig, but this was the second week in a row for it.  They opened at 11:00am and served brunch and drink specials until 2:00.  Molly Wellmann was guest bartending and she brought a picnic  basket of her special ingredients.  She made me “Summer in a Glass” which is now my all time favorite.  They were out of Java Stout, but the drink specials were mimosas and bloody marys.

The menu was totally fab.  I had Curry tofu scramble with coconut milk, onions, chiles, currants, and fresh cilantro.  Wow!  Yummy!  This is the first tofu scramble I have ever had that I really really liked.  Eric had Halley’s Benedict.  It was 2 poached eggs a top quesadilla smothered in chipotle Hollandaise with roasted pimenton ham.  Eric says “It was good.  Very good.  The ham… I mean the ham was… really!”  I also got a taste of Sticky toffee baked banana French toast with rum whipped cream, which was to die for!  Next time I’m ordering that!

It was a sunny 26 degrees outside, and people still went out to smoke!

They were busy when we got there, and the people kept coming in.  They were packed until about 1:30 when people started to leave.  We thought about staying for the Comet Bluegrass All-Stars, but we still had things we had to do today.  So after Eric beat Dave and me at pool, we left at about 3:00.  What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  Good food, good friends, good drinks.
