Motorcycle Safety Foundation Beginner Course

Online Registration for 2010 Motorcycle Safety Classes starts on Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 a.m.

Whoo-Hoo!  It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for!  Registration for Beginning Biker Classes!  No, really.  If you want to learn to ride, this is a great way to start.  Very easy.  Minimal investment.  If you weren’t sure before, by the time you finish the class you will know if you want to buy a bike or not.

All you do is go down to the BMV and get a motorcycle learner packet.  It will include a little booklet that shows you a picture of a motorcycle with all the parts labeled.  You look at the picture and memorize the parts.  (Handlebars, rear view mirror, brake, throttle, turn signal, etc.)  Then you take the written test to show that you know what a stop sign means and where the brake is on your bike.  They give you your temps.

When you go to take the MSF class you bring your temps, a pair of heavy gloves (leather work gloves will do), wear a heavy pair of boots (hiking boots or work boots are perfect), and a fairly abraison resistant jacket.  You can use one of their helmets.  You ride their bikes.  The whole class costs $25.o0

The class is one evening in the classroom and all day Saturday and Sunday on the range.  The instructors will take you step by step through everything you need to know.  Why is this better then having your buddy teach you for free?  Well, because your buddy is probably going to say “Well… here’s the brake, and here’s the gas.  Go ahead and give it a try.”  And then you will ride straight into the only parked car in the lot.  In the MSF classroom you will practice clutch, throttle, and brake before you ever even get on the bike.  They also teach you to get a feel for the gas and clutch so that you don’t accidently do a wheelie into the building on the other side of the parking lot.  If you take the MSF class you won’t look like this guy:
