Friday was our 5 year wedding anniversary.  We went to dinner at Mastro’s, in the City Center.  The City Center is a mall with a lot of designer stores.  They have a Louis Vuitton store, Roberto Cavalli, Van Cleef and Arpels, Tiffany, Cartier, and many others.  Mastro’s is a restaurant in the middle of the mall with a section called the Tree House.  The Tree House is a huge piece of sculpture in the middle of the mall that rises up to the second floor and is part of the restaurant.  You can see over the edge into the mall from the Tree House.

Everything on the menu is a la carte.  The portions are huge.  We each had a chop salad, Eric had a bone-in tenderloin.  (Which was excellent, he says.  “It was marvellous.  Dry aged.  Rich and beefy, like a good steak should be.”)  I had a fish that I had never heard of before, Opakapaka.  It turns out that this is a Hawaiian fish also called pink snapper.  It was a huge 12 ounce fillet.  (It was yummy, but I could not eat the whole thing.)  For a side dish we had crab gnocchi.  Wow!  Very rich and wonderful.  We had not planned on dessert, but since they found out it was our anniversary they brought us a huge piece of chocolate cake with “Happy anniversary” written on the plate in chocolate.  This cake was so creamy it was almost like a flowerless torte.  It just melted in our mouths.
